A legendary mercenary from a galaxy far, far away. Why was Mace Windu surprised when Jango Fett was beheaded? Jango fett star wars

Jango Fett - fictional character from the universe" Star wars" ("Star Wars"). A professional mercenary, a born killer and, formally, the “ancestor” of the clone army of the Galactic Republic.

Jango Fett was born into a family of farmers on the planet Concord Dawn. This planet was located in the Mandalore sector and had long been known for its connections with the Mandalorians. Django's father was the embodiment of law at the local level. When Fett was still very young, the sector was engulfed in civil war; Jaster Mereel's "true Mandalorians" battled the renegades of Tor Vizsla's Death Guard. The conflict also affected Fett's homeland; Django's father sheltered Meryl and his people on the planet. The Guardians eventually tracked down the opponents; Thor Vizsla captured Django, attempting to use him as a way to lure Meryl out of hiding. The renegades brutally beat Django's father, trying to find out the whereabouts of the "true" ones. The boy's mother intervened with a well-aimed shot in the face of one of the villains, creating enough noise for Fett to escape; the boy reached Meril, while his parents were killed and his older sister Arla was captured by the Guardians.

With Django's help, Meryl and his men were able to escape to safety. Having lost his family and home, the boy joined the Mandalorians. Fett later managed to take part in one of the "true" counterattacks; During the operation, he met with the enemy soldier who killed his parents - and took revenge on him for the death of his loved ones.

Having become a true Mandalorian, Fett continued to fight as part of Meryl's forces. Everything changed after the Battle of Korda Six; Initially, however, Django had no idea how much this seemingly ordinary mission would affect him. Making his debut as squad leader, Fett was to take part in a routine extraction operation. Unfortunately, intelligence greatly let us down - and the “little resistance” turned out to be quite serious. Together with Fett, Meryl himself and his right-hand man Montross took part in the operation. The team that Django and his comrades were supposed to rescue turned out to be an ambush by the Guardians; Tor Vizsla himself was present at the scene. The battle was unsuccessful; Meryl was seriously injured and died in Fett's arms. The death of the man who became his de facto adoptive father was a serious shock. Django, however, managed to carry the body of the late teacher from the battlefield - and successfully took the leadership position, managing to defend it in the conflict with Montross.

As the new leader of the Mandalorians, Fett successfully led them into battle and beyond. A new turning point in his life was the Battle of Galidraan. By order of the local governor, Django suppressed the uprising; in addition to the usual fee, he demanded information about the whereabouts of Tor Vizsla - whom the governor not only hid, but also sponsored. Unfortunately, Vizsla managed to get ahead of Fett; Having entered into an alliance with the governor, he accused Jango's Mandalorians of terrorism and enlisted the support of the Jedi. Fett failed to warn his troops; in the ensuing battle, however, Django managed to do something completely incredible. Unarmed, using only his arms, legs and armor, Fett managed to personally kill 6 Jedi. This, however, did not affect the outcome of the battle - the “true” were destroyed, and Django himself was captured and sold into slavery.

Fett remained in slavery for several years, until lucky chance didn't help him escape. Returning to Galidraan, Jango found his armor and "convinced" the governor to give him Vizsla's sanctuary. Django fought Thor Vizsla personally; The enemy seemed to be able to gain the upper hand with the help of a poisoned blade, but Fett managed to inflict a serious wound on Thor with his blade - and attract the attention of a group of predators. They dealt with Vizsla without touching the “poisonous” Django.

Jango Fett was first shown in the film "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones". When he first appeared, Fett was described as a mercenary who was used as a genetic template to create an entire army of clones. This was all part of a complex, multi-stage plan by the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus. Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi followed Fett while investigating an attempt on the life of Senator Padmé Amidala. As it turned out later, the murder of Senator Fett was ordered by Viceroy Nute Gunray. Fett did not carry out the assassination attempts personally, transferring the order to the werewolf killer Zam Wesell; she, however, failed to cope with the task - and after two unsuccessful attempts, Fett was forced to liquidate his “subcontractor”. Killed Django's colleague in order to ensure his safety; in a cruel twist of fate, it was the dart he used to kill that led the Jedi to the planet Kamino. It was on Kamino that local clone makers worked on the army and it was here that Jango Fett lived. Along with Django on Kamino was a rather unusual addition to the payment he took from the clone makers for his work; the mercenary asked to make one clone for him personally. The clones that were part of the army were artificially modified; their growth was greatly accelerated, and absolute submission to their superiors was hardwired into their brains. The clone Fett obtained was made to a different specification; he had complete free will and matured at the usual rate. Django named his clone Boba Fett and raised him as his own son.

Obi-Wan's arrival on Kamino ended in open conflict between Jedi and mercenary; An experienced fighter, Jango managed to survive the battle with Kenobi and successfully escape from Kamino. The mercenary left the battlefield for the planet Geonosis - there was his employer, the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus. On Geonosis, Django died, getting involved in a decisive battle with the Jedi. The mercenary had to deal with one wild beast released into the arena and, much worse, with Jedi Master Mace Windu. The jetpack, damaged in the battle with the beast, failed the mercenary - and the Jedi managed to kill him in front of Boba.

IN recent years Republic Jango Fett was considered the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. He wore a shiny armored helmet that hid the scars on his face. Django was a sharp shooter and a master of hand-to-hand combat, and also always carried an arsenal of weapons with him, including knives in armlets, snares, two blasters and other, more exotic devices.

In battle, Django used a jetpack to gain an advantage in speed and height. Django could also give his enemies an unpleasant surprise by firing a powerful rocket from his backpack. Django traveled across the galaxy on a battered ship, Slave I.

Some time before the start of the Clone Wars, the dark Sith lord Count Dooku contacted Fett and, calling himself Tyranus, invited Jango to become a donor for the clone army that was being created on Kamino. Fett agreed, but also demanded from the Kaminoans one clone without any genetic modifications. He began to raise his clone as if he were his own son and named him Boba.

At the end of his life, Django participated in assassination attempts on Senator Padmé Amidala. Eventually, he was tracked down by Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, who flew to Fett on Kamino. Django and Boba quickly left the planet and flew to Count Dooku on Geonosis. Soon there was a battle between the Republic and the Separatists, during which Jango Fett was killed by Jedi Master Mace Windu.

After Mace Windu beheads Jango Fett, he appears somewhat surprised. Why? Is it because there was almost no body underneath this armor?

Boba Fett and Count Dooku also look surprised. Boba is surprised because he just saw his father killed, but why Dooku? Is he worried that his "bodyguard" is now dead?

Fett had...a reputation.

jlconlin

@DVK reputation? For what? (Do I even want to know?)

bit

@DVK: Now his reputation is not solid; His reputation is just gossip, right?!

Omegacron

@bitmask: Not a total waste - I caught it as soon as I read it... I was like "HA - Train Jobs!"

bit

@Omegacron: Glad there are still brown coats in this verse. :)

In the novelization by R.A. Salvatore was not surprised:

And then it happened suddenly. Mace began to cut to the left, cutting him off and stabbing straight, then switched his grip and sent his lightsaber piercing him from left to right. He spun in a full circle, turning to parry the blaster shot, but it didn't fire.

This left to right turn landed clean. Jango Fett's head was torn from his shoulders and fell from his helmet to settle in the dirt.

Finally, FETT is free and kills REEK. MACE WINDU battles JANGO FETT furiously. Finally, the bounty hunter falls. His helmet flies. The bounty hunter's body falls to the ground.

As for the movie, I think it's not surprise on Master Windu's face, but sadness (later I'll try to find a formal explanation for this in the novel Shatterpoint):

Also, Dooku just looks unhappy, not surprised:

Master Windu's mood is explained in the C-canon novel by Matthew Stover Shatterpoint, which centers on the story of this character. In the Force, he felt that he had to kill Dooku. Instead, he didn't, and this allowed the Clone Wars to begin, without a second chance to stop it. He is not sad about Django's death, but about what this death means to signal his failure.

In my dreams... My blade doesn't illuminate the underside of Fett's square jaw. I don't waste time on words. I'm not shy
I believe.
In my dreams, the purple flash of my blade incinerates the gray hairs of Dooku's beard, and in the critical half-second Jango Fett takes aim and fires, I yank that blade and take Dooku with me to death.
And save the galaxy from civil war.
I could do this.

Leaving this aside, there is reason for many (any non-Jedi) to wonder:

Windu himself has a healthy assessment of Django's lethality. From the point Shatterpoint view, here are Master Windu's thoughts on the Geonosian arena (after remembering the facts):

Jango Fett has weapons galore. Killer Instinct: The deadliest man in the galaxy. Django can kill me in less than a second. I know that Even if I had never seen Kenobi's report from Kamino, I feel the violence that Jango exudes: in the Force, a pulsar of death.

  • We see that less than 5 minutes earlier, Jango Fett easily killed another Jedi (Jedi Master and Jedi Council member Coleman Trebor) with his blaster, one on one. Here's a clip of the event on YouTube and a little photo montage I made from my copy of AotC:

Maybe Mace sympathized with Boba Fett

This was due to some editing. I would add that I think Mace Windu resigned himself, because he did something extreme due to lack of alternative. Dooku looks a little... like Saruman.

  1. Mace Windu doesn't look surprised, he makes his disgust at the situation clear.
  2. Dooku is truly worried.

We know that Windu uses a form of combat based on his emotions (Form VII). He fights in some kind of trance, like a Sith, but he controls this trance. He may not truly understand the reality of what he is doing during this trance until he fights Jango Fett. Fett, the galaxy's best bounty hunter, is surprisingly not that good in his fights against Kenobi and Windu.

Windu wakes up from his trance state to see what he really did and feels remorse or wonder at what he did.

I think Dooku is just disgusted, maybe scared and afraid (scary Sith!).

I actually agree (not a Gree clone, verb) with Shatterpoint's explanation. I want to say one more thing, sorry for my English, I'm French.

Windu is a Jedi. If you look at this, you will find that Django was about to fly away. But the rhinoceros broke his jetpack, so this was impossible. Mace thought he would fly away too, and was most likely going for his legs or jet engines.

There's also a chance, in the heat of battle, he didn't notice Jango's blaster being destroyed - yes, it happened - and was trying to deflect another laser blast.

In short, Windu was only trying to suppress Django, not kill him. Killing someone in front of your child is just like hell, that's not Jedi. Windu's facial reaction is surprised by the fact that he ended up decapitating Django rather than subduing him, and regrets that he did this in front of his son.

It's a theory, but I think it's pretty well educated. Anyway, that's my answer.

Shawdawg

I think Mace felt guilty for killing Django rather than catching him. It might even be respect.

As for Dooku, although the Bounty Hunter game and comics are now just legends and not considered canon, I think Dooku respected himself for Jango and may have been liked by him, knowing that he wanted the first clone to be his son. He eventually hired Django to do the clones.

Jason

From the look on his face, Mace seems to be relieved rather than surprised. Dooku, on the other hand, looked a little surprised, but I always took that as a surprise for Mace Windu's aggressiveness. He kills without hesitation, like the Sith, but without the use of anger and hatred. This also surprises Dooku when he fights Anakin in their final battle.

Django

Django only had one gun with him. He was also unable to use his jetpack and was trampled by a rhinoceros. Then when he fights the Windu, he kind of screws it up. Anyway, I think Dooku is just surprised he killed Jango and Mace

In this article you will learn:

Jango Fett- famous Mandalorian mercenary, assassin, bounty hunter. Character from the Star Wars universe. Fett's story consists of Legends (books) and Canons (original story from films and books written since 2014). Since Django died in the film, there is no reason not to believe that he was alive before he became a mercenary.

Legends

Birth and childhood

The hero was born in 66 BBY, on the agricultural planet Concord Down in the Mandalore sector, into the Fett family. Django had a sister, Arla.

As a child, Jango witnessed the murder of his parents when civil war broke out on the planet and his father hid the True Mandalorians in his home.

Death Watch, led by Tor Vizsla, killed Fett's parents and took his sister hostage. Django miraculously managed to escape by hiding. He helped the Mandalorians and they took the boy with them.

Desiring revenge, Django took part in an ambush on Death Watch, where he blew up a tank and shot his parents' killer.

Arla's sister was held captive for a long time, but eventually ended up in a mental hospital on Coruscant.

The Mandalorian

Young Fett

Jango remained among the Mandalorians, where he was raised and trained by leader Jasper Mereel. The hero spent his entire youth in training.

As he grew older, Django became the leader of Django's Grunts. His first mission was to distract a group of thugs, but the enemy turned out to be much larger than expected. In this mess, Fett's mentor, Mereel, died, abandoned by his colleague Montross.

Jango managed to reach the rally point with the dead leader in his arms, after which he blamed Montross for everything, forcing him into exile, and he himself became the leader of the True Mandalorians.

As leader, Jango continued Mereel's work by carrying out orders across the galaxy.

Django and Mereel

The real problem for Fett was Tor Vizsla, who was trying to rebuild Death Watch and accusing the Mandalorians of robbery and murder. He even called the Jedi to deal with them.

When the Jedi, led by Padawan Komari Vosa, arrived at Jango's camp, Fett was angry at Vizsla and ordered fire.

All the Mandalorians were killed in this battle. Angry, Django did what made him famous - he defeated six Jedi with his bare hands. However, the outcome of the battle was predetermined. Fett is the only one left alive.

Slavery and revenge

Django was sold into slavery and for a very long time he was a slave on a ship transporting spices. His captivity lasted until the ship was attacked by pirates.

Fleeing, Fett traveled to the site of the final battle in search of his armor and revenge. Having found the armor, Django set about searching for Vizsla. He found him on the ship "Deathrattle" after getting into a fight. The end of the battle took place on the planet Corellia, where Fett was hit by a poisonous blade, and the wounded Vizsla was torn to pieces by wild cats.

After the death of the leader, Vizla's Death Watch disappeared, which put an end to civil war on Concord Down.

Canon

Headhunter

The plot of the Canon begins with the first film where the hero appeared, in the film “Attack of the Clones” (In the film his role was played by actor Temuera Morrison), however, there is a small backstory of Django, how he actually signed up to create an army of clones and became a legendary hunter.

After the end of the war, Fett left the Mandalorians, becoming a famous bounty hunter.

Django was a well-known bounty hunter in the criminal world of the Galaxy. He was the embodiment of strength, dexterity and prudence.

In the fight against the enemy, Fett used a sleek armored helmet and armored suit.

In 32 BBY, a famous hunter received a tempting job offer. A certain man named Tyranus, for a huge sum, invited him to hunt the former Jedi Komari Vos, who was one of those who destroyed Fett’s team, and now formed the criminal organization “Bando Gora”.

“Congratulations, Jango Fett. I am Tyranus. I have an offer for you. You are one of those chosen to participate in a special hunt for special prey. If you succeed, your reward will be expressed in five million Republic Credits.”

In his long search for Komari and her organization, Fett met a hunter named Zam Wesell and acquired a new ship, Slave I, to replace the destroyed Jaster's Legacy.

Another hunter with whom Django was destined to clash was an old acquaintance, Montross. He tracked him down on his way to the Bogdan system, where Bando Gora was located, and attacked. Fett emerged victorious in this battle.

After finding Vosa, Django was captured. Komari inflicted many scars on his face, trying to make him her slave, but the hunter was saved in time by Zam Wesell. Together they defeated the fallen Jedi. Django could have killed Komari, but he didn’t; his employer, who was in the room, Darth Tyranus, also Vosa’s former teacher, Dooku, did it instead.

Tyranus was amazed by Fett's abilities, how he fought and killed the Jedi. All this was just a test for Django, who was offered much more than 5 million credits. The hunter was asked to become a donor to create an army of clones, who in due time will need to carry out “Order 66”.

Attack of the Clones

Fett agreed, traveling to Kamino where replicas of himself were created.

At Django's request, another clone was created without genetic modifications, which the mercenary dubbed . He raised him as his own son and hoped that he would one day lead the True Mandalorians.

In 22 BBY, Dooku ordered a mercenary to kill Senator Amidala. Fett entrusted this task to his old acquaintance Zam Wesell. After two unsuccessful assassination attempts, Zam was captured by Obi-Wan Kenobi, after which Jango was forced to kill her with a poisoned dart.

In 22 BBY, Jango and his son attended a performance by Darth Tyranus on the planet Geonosis. A sudden attack by the Jedi forced Fett to once again fight against powerful enemies. He managed to hit several Jedi when he was attacked. Mace was much faster than Django, which is why the famous hunter lost his head.

After this, Boba hated all Jedi and vowed to kill Mace Windu.

When Star Wars fans remember the name Fett, they immediately associate it with the character Boba Fett. Then who is Jango Fett and why is he not as popular as Boba? We answer these and other questions in our special material about the heroes of the Star Wars universe.

General information

The character of Jango Fett in "Star Wars" is considered the most desperate and dangerous mercenary. Amazing physical skills, cold prudence and intelligence give him a significant advantage over any opponent. Fett's face and body are always hidden behind sleek armored gear, complete with hidden folding blades, multiple pistols, snares, and other weapons.

Another main one distinguishing feature Jango Fett's image is a special jetpack with rocket salvos.

Character biography

Django spent his childhood on the planet Concord Dawn: he, along with his parents and other families, was among the first colonists. After killing his loved ones, Fett joined the Mandalorian warriors, where he began his training under the supervision of Justin Meryl. Having achieved the desired results, Django left the opposition group and became a bounty hunter.

Soon the entire criminal world knew Fett's name as a first-class mercenary with a brilliant reputation. He began to receive offers from many influential bosses. However, Fett was guided by Mandalorian honor and did not want to fight for the sake of stingy and greedy employers.

A few years later, a meeting took place between Jango and Count Dooku, during which Fett received a rather interesting proposal - to play the role of donor for an entire army of clones.

The fact is that the mercenary had already encountered the Jedi and defeated them, so his candidacy for donation was considered the most suitable. In addition, Django took part in several attempts on the life of Senator Amidala. After another failure, Fett eliminated Zam Vesel, using a poisoned dart for this purpose. It was from this dart that the clone factory was identified. Fett had to engage in a difficult but short duel with Obi-Wan, after which he took refuge on Geonosis.

Death

Jango Fett fought his final battle against Mace Windu on Geonosis. Before this, the mercenary managed to deal with several Jedi at once, but Master Windu turned out to be much more experienced and stronger than his opponent. With his own, he cut off Fett's hand and then his head.

After Jango's death, his ship and armor were given to Bob Fett, who vowed revenge on the Jedi.

The connection between Jango Fett and Boba Fett

The classic trilogy first introduced viewers to the character of Boba Fett. Despite the fact that many mistook him for Django's son, in reality this is not the case. Boba Fett is an unmodified clone of Jango, being his exact genetic copy. When the mercenary agreed to become a donor for Dooku, he demanded not only money, but also his own clone. Django raised him as his own son, teaching young Boba all his skills, knowledge and hatred.

The character's appearance in Star Wars films and other projects

Jango Fett first appeared on screens in Attack of the Clones, the second film in the prequel trilogy. This was his first and last appearance in the entire film franchise. Viewers are introduced to the character through Obi-Wan as he arrives on Kamino investigating the attack on Padme. A little later in the story, Jango Fett appears on Geonosis, where, during last fight he loses first his arm and then his head. Throughout the film, viewers were able to see Fett's true face.

In addition, Jango Fett became the main character of the game "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter". The game's plot touches on the time period before the events of Attack of the Clones.

The image of Jango Fett continues to appear in third-party projects to this day. These are mainly games created based on the Star Wars film universe, but there are also other projects. For example, the popular game The Witcher 3 pleased players with a large number of different references to popular characters. Jango Fett and The Witcher are connected by a funny Easter egg on the island of Skellige: near the village of Balandar, Geralt meets a mercenary from whom he can receive a task. The mercenary introduces himself under the name Django Frett, which is a direct reference to the bounty hunter from Star Wars. The fact that Frett considers himself the best of the best also hints at Django's character.
