Today, November 26, at 12:00 local time, the third Geographical Dictation started in all regions of our country and abroad.

This year, geographical knowledge is tested not only by all of Russia, but also by many foreign countries. The promotion takes place in 26 countries. In addition, if last year Dictation was written on 1,464 platforms, then in 2017 there were more than 2,300.

The leader in the number of educational campaign locations among foreign countries was China, where the Dictation was held in 10 cities at once. The largest venue abroad in terms of the number of seats was the branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in the city of Baku, where 800 participants were able to write the Dictation.

In Russia, the leader in the number of sites was the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where the Dictation was held in 308 organizations. Second place goes to the Republic of Bashkortostan - 209 sites, third place to the Krasnodar Territory - 122. Voronezh became the largest site in our country state university, where 2,000 participants were able to write a Dictation.

One of the most unusual sites of the action was the research vessel “Akademik Fedorov” of the Russian Antarctic Expedition, currently located in the Cape Town roadstead. The Dictation was also written on the nuclear icebreaker "Lenin", which is currently a museum in Murmansk. Also, more than ten nature reserves and national parks, museums of Soviet slot machines in Moscow and St. Petersburg, All-Russian children's center"Smena" in the Krasnodar Territory, the Big Planetarium in Novosibirsk. In addition, the Dictation took place on the Strizh trains Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow and Moscow - Berlin.

For those who were unable to come to the venues, an online dictation was organized at dictant.rgo.ru. It started on November 26 at 14:00 Moscow time and will last until 14:00 November 30, 2017 Moscow time.

Anyone who speaks Russian can test their knowledge of geography.

The test consists of 30 questions, with 45 minutes to answer. The results will be available in a month - they will appear on the website of the Russian Geographical Society.

The questions were divided into three blocks: definition of geographical concepts and terms by their description; identification of geographical objects on the map and the ability to apply knowledge in practice; identification of geographical objects from a fragment of a literary work.

The highest score you can get for a dictation is 100 points.

Participants of the Dictation who completed it in person will be able to find out their personal results after December 25 on the website dictant.rgo.ru using the unique identification number received at the sites.

Those who took the Dictation online will see the results immediately after answering the questions.

Based on the results of the event, an analytical report will be prepared assessing the level of geographic literacy of the Russian population as a whole and its individual age groups, the results of the Dictation in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and abroad.

The participants of the educational event differed in their opinions about the difficulty of the Dictation this year. Some site guests found the questions more difficult than in the past.

About dictation

On November 1, 2015, for the first time in the Russian Federation, a large-scale educational event aimed at assessing the level of geographic literacy of the population took place - the first All-Russian Geographical Dictation. The initiator of it was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Society, Vladimir Putin, and the organizer was the Russian Geographical Society.

The dictation took place in all regions of our country, at 210 specially prepared sites. The leaders in the number of organized sites were the Central, Ural and Volga Federal Districts, and among the regions– Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (32), Tver Region (18) and Moscow (15). In terms of the number of dictation participants, the leaders were the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (7026 people), Moscow (3343 people), Tver (1432 people) and Voronezh (1427 people) regions. In a number of other regions, attendance exceeded a thousand people.

How many people wrote?

Anyone could take part in the dictation, regardless of age, education and field of activity. To write a dictation"offline", came to regional sites 44,365 people. Of these, 43,567 submitted their work for verification. Another 27,564 people took the test online on the website of the Russian Geographical Society. Thus, the total number of dictation participants is about 72 thousand people.

Among them are people with a wide variety of education – from general primary education to postgraduate education with an academic degree. According to preliminary data, the largest group of participants were owners higher education, the smallest number – persons with primary general education. Thus, the average level of education of the dictation participants turned out to be higher than the statistical average for Russia.

Quests

The dictation included 25 test tasks, which were divided into three blocks. The first consisted of tasks on knowledge of geographical concepts and terms; the second was aimed at testing knowledge about the location of geographical objects on the map; the third - on knowledge of geographical descriptions.

One of the main principles of the action was anonymity. You didn’t have to indicate your name on the assignment and answer forms. Participants were asked to write only their age, occupation, attitude to geography (for example, student or teacher at a specialized university) and some other information. This information is necessary in order to assess and analyze the level of geographical knowledge of the residents of our country.

Excellent students, good students, poor students?

According to the organizers, it is too early to draw final conclusions based on the results of checking numerous works - specialists are still engaged in analytics and compiling the results.

According to preliminary statistics, among the dictation participants there are three main categories: schoolchildren, students and working citizens - approximately 30% each. The remaining categories of the population amounted to less than 10%. It is very pleasant that the majority of dictation participants are young people who strive to test their knowledge and, in the future, improve its level.

It is interesting that students in grades 5–9 answered questions completely differently from students in grades 10–11, while the answers of high school students differed little from the answers of adults. As for gender statistics, on average the scores of men's answers are two points higher than those of women.

The highest score that could be received for a dictation is 100 points, the lowest is 0. Unfortunately, 100-point results were not recorded in all regions, and the total number of works that earned the highest mark does not exceed 1%.

According to preliminary data, the average score for dictation in Russia is only 55 points, in school terminology– this is a three. It is even more sad that 48% of the participants wrote the dictation below the average level, that is, they received a C minus or a D. And this is against the backdrop of the fact that a significant part of the participants designated geography as their professional field of activity or classified themselves as active tourists.

The results of the dictation will be taken into account by the Russian Geographical Society when preparing a new concept of geographical education, which the Russian Geographical Society is developing jointly with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

How to find out your result?

Find out your personal results from the dictation participants who completed it "offline", can use a unique identification number obtained at the sites.

Dictation participants tell

Olga, technical university student, Moscow

– Many tasks seemed difficult to me. Because of the questions, as they say, “for knowledge,” I was not very upset - well, I don’t know the name of the city located in the Pacific Ocean, where the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger aircraft is produced! But the stupor at the question about the scale of the map unsettled me ( Ed.: we are talking about this question: “On a map at a scale of 1:10,000, the distance between points is 10 cm. What distance (in kilometers) on the ground does this correspond to?” Correct answer: 1 kilometer. Answers received: 100, 1000, 100,000 km). It's really a shame to stumble over this! Now I’m sitting here, refreshing my cartography.

Maxim, engineer, Vologda

– I consider myself an educated person, so it was unpleasant to find out that, for example, I do not know the northernmost continental point of our country and the name of the highest active volcano in Russia... (Ed.: Cape Chelyuskin and Klyuchevskaya Sopka).

Valery Viktorovich, builder, pensioner

– I would like to draw your attention to the important social aspect associated with the distribution of printed questions to the dictation participants. It was this circumstance that allowed me, and perhaps many other visually or hearing impaired people, to become participants in face-to-face dictation.

I am 76 years old. Disabled person of the 2nd group. In 2004 he suffered an ischemic stroke. Even with a hearing aid, it is sometimes very difficult to understand the lecturer's words in the audience, which is why I do not participate in mass events. Before becoming familiar with the Regulations on face-to-face dictation, I considered only testing via the Internet as a possible form of participation. I received the news about the printed issues with delight. THANK YOU! This allowed me to take part in the dictation in person.

Andrey, schoolboy (11th grade), Moscow region

– I came to the dictation just for company with friends, but in the end I didn’t regret it. I was intrigued by the question about the climber with a watch, I couldn’t answer it. I came home, figured it out, and it was interesting ( Ed.: we are talking about this question: “What is the date and time on the watch of a tourist climbing to the top of Elbrus, when on the watch of his friend, resting on the shore of Peter the Great Bay, is 5 o’clock in the morning on May 1?” Correct answer: April 30, 22 hours).

Alla, employee, Nizhny Novgorod

Testing online

For those who for some reason were unable to take part in the dictation at the Russian Geographical Society, online testing was conducted on the portal. Those who decided to try their hand online were less fortunate than those who took part in the “live” dictation: the large educational event that we had been preparing for so long, so enthusiastically and seriously, found a different scenario. We, who know well that geography in recent years schools pay, to put it delicately, not the closest attention, and we could not have imagined that it would be so in demand, and the number of people wishing to assess their geographic literacy would be many times greater than our expectations!

Unfortunately, the RGS server could not withstand such a load (which, to be fair, we note, also happens with much larger, technically equipped organizations). On the one hand, this is, of course, very sad. But on the other hand...

Yes, all of us - both the organizers and, most importantly, the participants - are offended that the first geographical dictation in the history of the country did not go as planned. However, the fact that so many people responded to the “geographical call” and that there is a genuine interest in geography in society did not allow us to give up. And he clearly showed: everything we do is not in vain.

In the end, the problem was solved, and those who were partial to geography were able to write a dictation. In total, more than 27 thousand people took part in it.

Thank you to everyone who treated the current situation with understanding and patience and did not cower in the face of temporary difficulties!

The questions for the online test were combined from those tasks that were distributed to visitors of offline sites. We bring to your attention questions and answers online testing on.
