How to draw a Scary Pumpkin with felt-tip pens

Halloween is considered a dark and slightly creepy holiday because it contains frightening images. One of the main symbols of this night holiday is a pumpkin. Holes are cut out for the eyes and mouth, and a candle is placed inside. This is how a lamp is obtained. But today we’ll dream up a little and imagine that the pumpkin has come to life. We can draw it on paper by learning how to draw a Halloween pumpkin. She will be wearing a black magic hat, which brought her to life for this holiday.
Tools and materials:

  • White sheet of paper;
  • Simple pencil;
  • Eraser;
  • Black handle;
  • Thin black marker;
  • Colored pencils (yellow, orange, dark yellow, brown).
  • Step 1

    Draw a horizontal oval in the middle of the sheet. We draw an axial (vertical) line through the middle of the oval.

  • Step 2

    We'll draw an ellipse on top, which will later help us draw the edges of the hat. Add a long cap in the middle of the hat, which will curve at the edge. In the middle of the large oval at the bottom we will make a mouth for the pumpkin. It will be big and wide. The corners of the mouth are raised because the pumpkin is smiling.

  • Step 3

    In the middle of the pumpkin we will draw a small triangle, which will be the character’s nose. Let's add two eyes, the outer corners of which will be slightly raised, due to the fact that the pumpkin is smiling. In the mouth we will draw two teeth. We will add one on the top right, and the second on the bottom left.

  • Step 4

    Let's draw the shape of a pumpkin. The bottom of the pumpkin is divided into fragments, which we make rounded. Let's add a few small stripes under the hat.

  • Step 5

    Let's make the pumpkin more voluminous. We thicken the inside of the pumpkin, where the cuts for the eyes, mouth and nose go. Add an additional line and connect them at an angle.

  • Step 6

    The hat will look wrinkled, so let's add more folds to it. There will be folds not only on the cap, but also on the brim. At the base of the cap you need to draw a strap that will decorate it.

  • Step 7

    Use a black pen to outline all the necessary contours of the pumpkin and hat. We make the internal lines thinner, and the external ones can be made thicker. We will make cracks on the pumpkin from below.

  • Step 8

    Using a black marker, draw the entire mouth, nose and eyes. The hat will also be black, but let's leave some highlights on it.

  • Step 9

    The inside of the cut mouth, nose and eyes will be yellow. Let's make the pumpkin orange, but at the bends you need to add a darker tone. A brown pencil is suitable for this task. Using it you can draw a shadow on the pumpkin at the bends and under the hat. The hat strap will also be orange.

  • Step 10

    The Halloween pumpkin drawing is ready!

How to Draw a Pumpkin Wearing a Halloween Hat

Pumpkins come in different varieties. Their shape and size, and sometimes color, depend on this. Our pumpkin in today's master class for novice artists will not be of any special variety. And the very shape and color make it clear even to a child that this is a pumpkin.

Thanks to the breakdown into stages, drawing a pumpkin will be easy.

Drawing a pumpkin, like any other vegetable or fruit, begins with a sketch. You can even place a real pumpkin in front of you or just a photo of one. Then it will be much easier to draw. However, if there are none of the proposed options, then repeat step by step all the steps in this lesson. As a result, you will get a drawing of a yellow-orange pumpkin that will be very similar to the real thing.

Required materials:

  • black thin marker or felt-tip pen;
  • a simple pencil;
  • sheet of paper;
  • colored pencils in brown, orange and yellow tones;
  • eraser.

Drawing steps:

  1. We start drawing the pumpkin with one part, which will be located in the middle. Draw an oval. The shape should be oblong.

  1. To the first oval we draw one more on the sides.

  1. Draw a small branch at the top of the pumpkin.

  1. Let's add one more oval on the sides. However, they will be half invisible due to the previous ovals.

  1. Finally, let’s draw the last parts of the pumpkin in the distance. Some will only be visible at the top.

  1. To make the step-by-step pumpkin drawing look brighter and more saturated, we’ll outline it using a black marker or felt-tip pen. For this purpose, it is better to take a tool with a thin tip so that the lines are neat. Draw each line exactly along the drawn pencil line.

  1. Now we take colored pencils of brown and yellow tones. We paint the top of the pumpkin with them. Use a yellow pencil to completely color the object, but use a brown pencil to create shadows.

  1. Let's move on to the pumpkin itself and apply a yellow tint to its sides.

  1. Paint over the white areas on the pumpkin with an orange pencil. This will create volume for our fetus.

The night of November 1 is not just a transitional moment between the warm season and the onset of winter cold, but is also traditionally considered the most mysterious. IN Western culture It is believed that it is at this time that evil spirits return to earth from the afterlife and pose a threat to all humanity.

To protect themselves from otherworldly forces, people began to dress up in frightening costumes, carve gloomy faces from pumpkins, and decorate their homes with images of monsters. Therefore, when preparing for this exciting holiday, it would be a good idea to learn how to draw a Jack pumpkin.

Preparation of materials

To avoid any unpleasant surprises in the process of drawing a pumpkin, you need to prepare the necessary materials for the drawing. If thick paper is not available, you can use a sheet of cardboard with a rough surface as a basis.

When trying to figure out how to draw a Halloween pumpkin, it is not recommended to use whatman paper, because this material is practically unsuitable for drawing with pastels. You should also not use dark-colored paper, since the color of such a base will blur the main design. As a last resort, you can limit yourself to choosing yellow or orange paper.

When choosing a “tool” for drawing, you should choose either a set of high-quality ones. If the sketch will be done with crayons, then they should be sharpened well for more convenient drawing.

Where to start?

How to draw a pumpkin? To begin with, use a simple pencil an oval sketch is created, after which several vertical lines are drawn from the top of the shape to the bottom. This indicates the outline of the future pumpkin.

A tail is drawn at the top of the vegetable. Its contours can be outlined in the form of a rectangle, with rounded corners. The lower part of the tail is depicted “growing” into the middle of the pumpkin. However, if you wish, you can do without this element.

How to draw a pumpkin with a pencil so that the drawing turns out neat? To do this, you need to slowly remove the lines of the preliminary sketch. While working, you should try not to overwrite the paper, which can have an extremely negative impact on appearance finished work.

Drawing the “face”

A Halloween pumpkin drawing cannot be considered complete without an image of an ominous face. The easiest way to depict eyes and nose is in the shape of an elongated triangle. The basis of the future smile should be two arches, between which uneven square or rectangular teeth are subsequently drawn. In principle, you can limit yourself to a few. This will make the drawing look more intimidating.

Using a regular eraser, you need to erase all unnecessary lines in the openings of the mouth, eyes and nose. Next, you can start filling the image with color.

Coloring the drawing

Figuring out how to draw a pumpkin is not difficult. Usually, the more difficult task is coloring the drawing. After all, making a pumpkin truly neat, scary and attractive is not so easy.

The main outline can be filled with yellow, later highlighting the structure of the relief lines with a rich orange color. To make the drawing as bright as possible, it is recommended to use gouache or felt-tip pens for coloring.

When trying to figure out how to draw a pumpkin correctly, don’t forget about the background. This image will look most impressive on a dark field. You can use dark blue, black, purple, dark green or burgundy shades, as well as a reasonable combination of them, to color the background.

When working on coloring the ponytail, it is better to add light green shades to its main one. The space around the pumpkin's eyes, nose and mouth should be highlighted with rich colors.

Don’t forget about the shadows, both on the vegetable itself and on which you can draw with a black or brown pencil. To make the transitions between lines more effective and realistic, just lightly rub the colors with your finger.

Having figured out how to draw a pumpkin and completed a sufficient number of successful drawings, you can try to complement such images with traditional Halloween elements. These could be silhouettes of ghosts, black cats, witches flying on a broomstick, and other evil spirits.

I received a lot of letters asking me to show how to draw a pumpkin and this is not surprising, because Halloween is coming. I already touched on this topic once, we were drawing. The attributes of this holiday are very diverse, so we will gradually expand this topic. Let's start with this picture: Pumpkin - aka pumpkin, aka a garden scarecrow, aka a scary head, aka a symbol of Halloween. People have always loved to scare each other scary stories about Frankenstein, flying (read skull, not turtle!) who spread the plague and scare the cat. But it’s not so easy to scare your brother. This requires at least a scary costume and a bit of acting skill. After scratching their turnips, everyone decided that using a pumpkin for these purposes would be cheap and cheerful. Although my mother taught me not to play with food, the faces she makes are very scary and varied. The more perverted the artist’s imagination, the more terrible they turn out. Let's imagine together, try to depict it following these instructions:

How to draw a pumpkin with a pencil step by step

Step one. We draw a rectangular shape into which we will fit the oval shape of a pumpkin and on top of it we will attach another stalk, or a stem, or a root, or whatever it is. Step two. Let's set the level of the eyes and add a smile from ear to ear. Step three. Let's make vertical stripes like a zebra, and draw in the eyes, nose and sinister smile. Step four. All that remains is to add shadows. Let's darken some areas, try repeating it like this: There you go. Show us what pumpkins you made for Halloween. I also advise you to try to depict other symbols of this holiday.

Not long ago, various foreign holidays entered our lives. Valentine's Day - February 14 and others. And one of these holidays is Halloween. For some reason, it was especially loved by middle school and teenage children. Its history goes back centuries. It originated in ancient Scotland and Ireland, among the local ancient people- Celts. Then they began to celebrate it on the territory of modern Great Britain. Halloween is celebrated at the end of October - the 31st. This day is called All Saints' Day. This day is considered a holiday when all evil spirits, all evil forces - ghosts, devils, zombies, gnomes and others - gather. The holiday has its own remarkable things - symbols. One such symbol is the jack-o-lantern. In general terms, it is a pumpkin hollowed out from the pulp with cut out eyes. A candle is placed inside and the pumpkin burns from the inside with hellish flames. Let's try to draw this Halloween symbol.

Stage 1. Drawing a pumpkin is not that difficult. Let's start with the auxiliary lines. We draw two circles of the same diameter - these are the future eyes, under them is a mouth made of two curved lines connected to each other at the edges. Next, we connect the two circles with a curved arc, curved upward. And under the mouth we will also draw a convex line.

Stage 2. Everyone knows that pumpkins come in different textures: round, elongated, smooth, ribbed, wavy, etc. We will depict just a ribbed pumpkin; it has an uneven surface, but is sort of wavy. On at this stage We will just draw these edges of the pumpkin surface. They are drawn with the same curved lines symmetrically on both sides of the eyes, giving the pumpkin texture and volume.

Stage 3. Decorate the face or face of the jack-o-lantern. First, draw out the eyes in circles. We give them an angry expression in advance. Then we will designate the nostrils below between the eyes. The nostrils are widened slightly, as if a pumpkin is inflating them.

Stage 4. Now we draw the pumpkin’s teeth. Along this length of the mouth we draw wide, uneven teeth protruding from the mouth in straight and curved lines.

Stage 5. Now we need to use additional lines to give the teeth volume. These lines are also usually the lines along which, along with the eyes and nostrils, holes are cut into the pumpkin, through which light then leaks.

Stage 6. At the top of the pumpkin we will mark the tail. This is a small shoot that once connected the pumpkin to the plant on which it grew. It is ribbed and has several edges.

Stage 7. We paint the heroine of our today's lesson. As usual, pumpkin comes in different shades of orange. Her tail is green. Well, in the cut out holes of the eyes, nostrils and mouth, a bright yellow color flickers or burns constantly. Decorate your Halloween at home with these designs. Or maybe you will have a real jack-o-lantern?
