Pleasantness is ensured both by the medical cases themselves, where there is practically no illness (so, some kind of whim regarding appearance or a small inaccuracy in the work of nature, which is so easy to correct), and the personal and professional qualities of surgeons: pediatric and plastic surgeons are distinguished by pleasantness in communication, and this pleasantness shines through at both poles of the said dichotomy, you just need to be able to see it in the tone of “hello” , how are you,” and in the tone “put away this needle, I asked for a small one.” So here it is. The first thing I did after a four-minute tedious cleaning of my hands with a disposable brush with a special soap, putting on a sterile gown, closed on all sides and pulling on sterile gloves - I adjusted a non-sterile mask on my face, that is, I immediately violated my sterility and was forced to very carefully and with the help of two other nurses, change the “ruined” glove. This involuntary movement of the hand towards the face was repeated twice more - and the gloves were changed twice. I didn’t even know how difficult it was for my own consciousness to control what my own hands were doing. Somewhere something similar happened to me, once I was already surprised at the involuntary movement with which I touch my face. I remembered: it was when I went to the school theater studio and they put real theatrical makeup on our faces, we were forbidden to touch our faces, and it was not easy. This is where it happened again))))

4. The gym is forever.

Nothing special, just another (especially pleasant) pediatric surgeon for some reason greeted me before the operation and asked my name. When we met in this way, he noticed that he had known me for a long time from the gym. It's surprising that I never remembered him. It’s at moments like these that I understand how scared and tense I really am in this whole operating booth. I exchange nods in the corridors with many other surgeons I know from the training simulator, and this is very pleasant and generally so supportive...

5. The patient and his fear, the patient’s family and her fear, the new scrub nurse and her fear.

One of the expected differences between operating rooms and regular hospital departments is that communication with the patient and his family does not exist, since during the operation the family waits in the waiting room while the patient sleeps safely. The expectation was only partially justified: before the operation began, before the patient safely fell asleep and was intubated, there was enough communication with him and his family for everyone. But for some reason it doesn’t do it to me, that is, the first time it was a little scary, how could such a wide electric knife hit a child, but when I saw that this knife was really safe and cut everything remarkably accurately and thinly, I calmed down. I don't even know why I'm like this. I guess I just get scared and turn away from other things, not from blood, and that's good anyway.
